Bassell, Benjamin, and John Dorsey Land Transactions

The signatures of Bassell, Benjamin, and John Dorsey,  probable sons of Andrew and Patience Dorsey, appeared together in a variety of land and legal records in Lincoln,County, North Carolina between 1790 and 1810.  Please consult the  cited source directly  before referencing any of these records in your own work.

It is tempting to speculate that the sales of lands in July and August of 1790 from Bassell to Benjamin and John represent some sort of division of their parent's estate.  However, they could also be the result of some business agreement amongst the three.

Of additional interest is the transfer of property from Bassell to William Harbison in the same time frame.  It is tempting to speculate further that William was the husband of a sister of Bassell--an idea that surely merits further investigation.  It should be noted also that William Harbeson was the witness for the deeds of sale to Benjamin and John.  If this were true, however, it is curious that there was no transfer of property to Richard Harrison,  on behalf of his wife, Andrew and Patience's daughter Rachel.
