Ancestor:  Thomas Harrison
Date: April 1, 2005

My fifth great grandfather was Thomas Harrison (brother of Richard Harrison who married Rachel Dorsey). He and Richard Harrison were raised by Isaac Robinson. I am researching the Dorsey family because they were in North Carolina and most likely Maryland. Both Thomas and Richard Harrison were born in Maryland. Thomas was born in 1760 and Richard was born in 1764. I am trying to find more information about Isaac Robinson. It is a theory of mine that Isaac Robinson may have married the mother of Thomas and Richard Harrison and raised the boys as his. In Revolutionary war pension records of Richard Harrison, it is stated that Thomas and Richard were orphaned and raised by Isaac Robinson. If you ever find any new information about Isaac Robinson. will you keep me posted. Thank You Judy Ann Harrison Vaughn

A most fascinating study...my husband will be very interested. Perhaps he could be a part of the DNA study. Our brick wall is William Murray Dorsey (Civil War), who reportedly 'did not know' his parents information.

My nephew, Chad Dorsey, is doing a family tree. I sent him your site to see if it may help him out. Both my parents are gone now, may be one or two aunts left on dad's side. Grandpa's name was John Miller Dorsey. He raised his family in Widen, West Va. If I find out any info that might be helpful, I'll pass it on. jd

Nancy: I am glad someone saw the information that I had sent to Henry Peden, Jr. Andrew would have been the right age to be the father of Cornelius but I decided years ago that wasn't the case. In the application for a pension for service during the Revolutionary War, made by Nicodemius Barnes, who also went to SC after the war, he said that he served with the Md. militia during 1780 and 1781. Cornelius served with him. Also, one of Cornelius' sons lived until the 1850 census and he said that he was born in Md. Thanks. I love the website.

Nancy, Great site. Thanks for responding to my query on Ancestry.com. I was not aware of the two Basil Dorseys. I see in the land records that Isaac Robinson was father-in-law to Basil and being witnessed by Benjamin, I presume that Basil (Andrew & Patience) was married to Mary Robinson, which agrees with my family tradition. However, do you know that she was married to this Basil rather than Basil John of the Edward line? This has aided my research and sent me in some new directions. I'll also be ordering the DNA kit. Thanks again. J. Dorsey

Nancy, Thank you for an extremely helpful and well-done website. I have finally closed the gap in my Harrison genealogy and find I descend from Richard Harrison and Rachel Dorsey's son Benjamin. I find Dorsey being used as a given name among their descendants for several generations. Your website has provided me with a great deal of fascinating information on the Dorsey line.
