John White
John White, the eldest son of Thomas and Margaret March White was christened June 02, 1833 in Marrick Yorkshire,  England.1  He came with his parents to Wisconsin in 1845 at the age of 12 and appeared with them on the 1850 Lafayette County Wisconsin census.2  Sometime between 1855 and 1857, he married Margaret Charlotte Leybourne Buckley.  (This date is estimated from the birth of Margaret's daughter Miranda Buckley in England in 18553 and the birth of Margaret and John's son John Thomas White in 18574.)  Margaret Leybourne's first husband was Edward Buckley.5

This photo has been in the possession of my family for as long as I can remember.  It is identified on the back as "Grandfather John White  Dads (T.W's) father." The handwriting was identified by Ken White as his that of Allen Whitford White, his uncle and the son of Thomas William White.

John and Margaret Leybourne Buckley White

This photograph was given to me by the late June Manley who was a descendent of Miranda Buckley, Margaret Leybourne Buckley White's daughter from her first marriage to Edward Buckley.  There is no doubt, based on comparisons with other labeled pictures, that the woman in the picture is Margaret.  June felt strongly that the young man was John White and not Edward Buckley.

By the time of the 1880 census, John White was living in the household of his father, Thomas White, at Signal Hill Farm in White Oak Springs and reported his marital status as divorced.8

Margaret C. White was living in Kewanee, Henry County, IL with her son Thomas W. who was a coal miner.  Margaret checked "single" as her marital status, as did Thomas9.

Sometime after 1880, John White went to Iowa where his brother James was homesteading.  He died there January 31, 1885.10

Margaret Charlotte Leybourn Buckley White died in a house fire in Kewanee, IL May 15, 1897.11  She is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee, IL.

At this time, there is no marker on Margaret's grave in Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee.  There has been talk among her descendents of providing one.  Anyone interested in contributing may write to MargarettasMarker@Contexo.info .
